This Is Not A Typo: Indiana University Is The First Bowl Eligible Team In College Football
Indiana University is officially a college football powerhouse. Alabama, who? Oh, the team that just lost to Vanderbilt?
It's the first week of October, we still have shorts weather, we still have weeks to figure out what costume you're going to half ass this year, and we still have 133 FBS teams fighting to become bowl eligible, but not THE Hoosiers. Indiana is the first team in college football that's ready to go bowling. Normally, IU fans have to wait till the Old Oaken Bucket game against a 4-7 Purdue team to earn a bid to the prestigious Pin Stripe Bowl, but not this year. This year Indiana has a legitimate team.
I understand Indiana hasn't played the toughest schedule in the world, but I've also watched IU football suffer embarrassing losses at the hands of the Ball State Cardinals, so seeing an Indiana team that wins by doing the simple things is still a little shocking to me. In the past, the Hoosiers have had some talented teams that self destruct in winnable games with stupid mistakes and penalties, but this year has a completely different vibe thanks to Indiana's savior - Curt Cignetti. IU is clicking in all three phases of the game and it's a beautiful thing to watch. I don't want to overreact, but is Kurtis Rourke might be the next Tom Brady. 40+ points in the last 5 games, perfect passes from the pocket, selfless football by slinging the ball to whatever target is open.
Even when the passes aren't so perfect, the talented WR room finds a way to get the job done.
The 2nd half of IU's schedule looks like a gauntlet compared to the first half, but this program is never daunted, IU is up for the challenge. Yeah, Indiana might now be eligible for the Quick Lane Bowl, or the honorable Music City Bowl, but why stop there? It's officially the college football playoff or bust for the Indiana Hoosiers, and Curt Cignetti is going to lead us all to the promised land. I thought this man was crazy during his introduction speech, or when he said IU would be in the big ten title game, but I'm smoking that entire Cig pack.
